Basic Stamping Stuff!

I wanted to show you how I set a stamp on wood. Sometimes I forget the importance of teaching basics. A customer ask for this tutorial, so here goes. I have below all the things you need; the rubber, the stickers, and the wood. I have been waiting for this set since convention Yeah!

I take my set Cut it our or if you have one of the new sets from the catalog I punch out the rubber. Next step is to take off the backing and align the stamp upside down on the sticker. Pay attention the the stampin up logo and make sure the set is parallel to the words. Then it is easy set you wood so it too is parallel to the logo and you are done!! just slap on the sticker on the front of the wood and you are all set.
I also like to mount all my sets so when I stamp the set is at the bottom left side of the wood block. This allows me to better place my print when stamping. the picture below is of course the opposite because you are seeing the rubber side.

By the way here is the card I made with this set

Making the Coil for the Pop up card

I promised to tell you about the coil card, so here goes . This card starts with the new 1 3/4 inch punch. I punched a circle out of chocolate chip so the items I wanted to pop would be visible and the coil would blend with the background. I cut a coil out of the circle by slowly cutting on the inside of the circle till I got to the center. I then used a glue dot to adhere one section of the coil to the card somewhere in the middle. If there is any glue showing it is important to add an image over that spot so it doesn't stick. I used a scallop circle with insert to cover the bottom section of the coil(near my thumb. Now I add a glue dot to the top of the coil. Below is a picture from convention that shows how the coil should sit before adding glue dot to the center of the coil. (note I only used one coil for this card)
Now close your card and the coil will be adhered to the other side of the card. I now stamped cut and adhered small images to the card to create the final layout. I used a punched circle to cover the glue dots on the back of each item I added to the coil, and there you go!

This is the sample card that I saw that inspired this card. Picture is from convention

Scrapbook page

Now back to our scrapbook page! lets say you wanted to make cards from the materials for the 6x6 scrapbook page. Well you just cut the 6x6 square in half and you have card stock for these two cute little cards. I used the following supplies
Stamps One of Kind, Boho Backgrounds, Crazy for cupcakes
Ink Chocolate Chip, Pink Pirouette
Paper Chocolate chip, Pink Pirouette, Whisper White
Accessories Boho punch, the following Stampin write markers; Close to cocoa, creamy carmel, pixie pink, Regal rose, summer sun, Pixie Pink satin ribbon.
Now if you take a piece of 8 1/2 X 11 pixie pink paper and stamp the back ground with pixie pink ink using the dots stamp from boho backgrounds you have the start of a larger scrapbook page. Just add some 3 x 3 chocolate chip squares, color in the cupcake using stampinwrite markers used for the above card. In addtion throw some boho flowers on using stampin dimensionals. Lastly a small section for journaling and your orginal 6 x 6 page you have a great 8 1/2 X 11 scrapbook pageOk what if you want a 12 x12 page you say? Start by creating a banner using the big deal alphabet and choclate chip ink on a strip of whisper white borderd with Pixie pink cardstock. (Whew that was a mouthfull) If you make a mistake stamping (like I did), re-stamp the correct letter on a small scrap of Pixie Pink and add some stampin dimensionals and now it looks like you meant to do it LOL! Last step is add both your 6x6 and your 8 1/2 X 11 scrapbook pages and now you have a wonderful 12 x 12 page!
Now comes my favorite part the card as well as the scrapbook page opens up to a pop up coil card! I promise to share this with you tomorrow!

Thanks for looking Virginia

Scrapbooking a 6 x 6 Page

During convention I saw so many wonderful ideas, this is one of the concepts I really liked at convention. It starts with a 6 x 6 page design like the one above. I used a 6x6 chocolate chip background. Then using Pirouette Pink ink on a 5 3/4 square and the scallop border punch create bottom border. Here's a photo tutorial on creating the border for this scrap book page.
Insert card stock and line it up against so it is slightly before the last scallop. This is best done if you are looking at the punch from above. Punch and slide card stock either left or right for the next section

Always lining up your newly created scallops with the silver scallop guide on the punch. (The picture above shows the scallops Not lined up)
Punch and line up until you're done! Easy peasy

Now for the page
I stamped the background using the dots set from Boho backgrounds on Pirouette pink paper. Then I sponged the edges with my dauber.
Using the same color ink and paper creates a wonderful tone on tone effect that is subtle.
The heading is from the happy every thing set and I used chocolate chip ink. One note I still am learning about cutting out my stamp sets. when I cut this set I clipped too close to the edge which makes the word Birthday rock a bit when I adhered it to my block. I am so happy that all the NEW sets in our fall winter catalog come pre-cut!
I cut a section of whisper white and chocolate chip for the journalling section and adhered it to the page. The flowers were made using the Boho punch and one of a kind stamp sets. I used both Pirouette pink and chocolate chip ink on Pirouette pink, and whisper white paper.
The Ribbon and the Chocolate chip section open to show a surprise. I promise to tell you about that tomorrow as well as how this page can be turned into several different size scrapbook pages or two cute little cards! So many great ideas from convention! Thanks for looking Virginia

What's Up With the Online Catalog?

Many of you may have already realized this, but the online catalog does not look like it used to. In order to view it, you have to download a large .pdf file and that can take a bit of time - especially since there are so many people trying to do it right now! But this is only temporary... read this statement made to us today by Stampin' Up! (and take heed to the recommendation in bold):

"...the new Online Ordering system will take the place of the online catalog you're used to seeing. During the interim period between the release of the Fall-Winter 2008 Idea Book & Catalog and the release of Online Ordering, the online catalog has been replaced with a PDF version that can be downloaded and viewed. This is a temporary solution that allows online access to the catalog until Online Ordering is available.

We are working to decrease the document's download time on our end, but because of file size and significant download traffic, it may take some time to download. When you do download the document, make sure to save it to your hard drive so that you do not have to download it again.

Thanks for your patience as we work to bring you a fantastic new Online Ordering system!"

So, the bulky .pdf file is only temporary - and it's online replacement will be outstanding (trust me, I saw sneak peeks at Convention)! Remember, too, that you can order your very own Idea Book & Catalog that you can hold in your hands - just drop me a line!

Thanks for understanding Virginia

While I'm away I have a special!

Hi all this is one of the swaps I brought and it is gone! It is so much fun to swap. It never ceases to amaze me how many different ideas folks come up with.

This card features a technique called Shadow stamping. The card is made with a wheel. I first stamped with the so swirly wheel and basic black ink on night of navy card stock. I start at the bottom with the seam of the rubber where it joins. Then clean the brayer and ink it up with Whisper white craft ink. I line up the brayer trying to match up the seam with the bottom. Because you can't get line the wheel up exactly it creates a shadow effect.

Wow with the convention and so many great stamps and accessories retiring I wanted to give you all a special as a thank you for your business! You may not know this about me but I looooooooove swapping. I brought to convention over 500 samples to swap with folks. I know I know I went overboard. I had so many cards I had to send home a box of some of the swaps. The box weighed over 30 Pounds!!!!!! Good Lord I am crazy.
I wanted to share with you some of the exciting things I have seen the last few days.
Below is a desk set probably sent in by a demonstrator isn't it cute? The set uses some of the designer series paper.

The page above shows you just a small sample of the many wonderful cards I got to see. If the big orange one in the middle looks familiar it's because it's MY card! I have been sending samples to Stampin' up and they used 6 different pieces of my work on the boards Wow do I feel honored. I will try and post more of the new exciting things coming.
